Special Education Teacher (Strategist II or willing to acquire Strategist II Endorsement)
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team, specializing in addressing the unique needs of students with behavioral, academic, social-emotional, and therapeutic goals. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional skills in working with diverse student populations, employing trauma-informed approaches, and demonstrating adept problem-solving abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- In partnership with the building special education team, develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students' diverse needs; with a focus on behavioral, social-emotional, and therapeutic goals.
- Utilize trauma-informed strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, understood, and empowered to succeed.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including counselors, therapists, and administrators to address students' holistic needs and foster their overall well-being.
- Employ evidence-based interventions and instructional strategies to support students in developing coping skills, emotional regulation techniques, and positive social interactions.
- Adapt curriculum materials and instructional methods to accommodate varying learning styles, abilities, and sensory sensitivities.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and caregivers through effective communication, empathy, and partnership in the educational process.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of student progress, behavior incidents, and intervention strategies in compliance with special education regulations and standards.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to special education, behavioral interventions, and trauma-informed practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field .or willingness to acquire.
- Valid Iowa teaching license/certification in Special Education (K-12 Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD - 263) or willingness to acquire.
- Previous experience working with students with behavioral, social-emotional, and therapeutic needs preferred.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and strategies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community stakeholders.
- Dedication to promoting equity, inclusivity, and cultural responsiveness in the classroom and school environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development in the field of special education.
